I Am Happiest When I'm…

I've been asked this question a dozen times. By friends, by strangers on the internet, by some journaling prompt I picked up at 2am.

And every time, I tried to sound deep. Said things like "when I'm growing" or "when I'm at peace with myself."

Lies. Comfortable, Instagram-worthy lies.

Let me try again.

I am happiest when I'm moving. Not metaphorically. Literally. When there's a road ahead of me, my bike beneath me, and absolutely no one expecting anything from me for the next few hours. No notifications. No conversations I'm supposed to be having. No version of myself I'm trying to perform.

Just me and the road.

I started riding solo a few years ago mostly by accident, honestly. Wasn't some grand spiritual decision. I just needed to get out. And somewhere on some nameless highway between two forgettable towns, I realised this is what it feels like to be okay.

Not happy in the way people post about. Not the kind that looks good in a photo. The quiet kind. The kind where you're not trying to feel anything, and yet something settles.

I'm also happiest when I'm writing something real. Not the kind written to impress the kind written because it had to come out. A line that's been sitting in my chest for days. A poem that makes me feel slightly embarrassed when I reread it, because it's too honest.

That embarrassment? That's the sign I got it right.

I've been writing since 2015. I've written about loneliness, about roads, about the way some people leave without saying anything. And every single time I hit publish on something that scares me a little that's when I feel most like myself.

So. To answer the question properly:

I am happiest when I'm moving through something a road, a feeling, a page. When I'm not standing still pretending to be fine. When I'm actually in it, whatever it is.

That's when it gets good.

That's when I feel like I'm living, and not just accounting for it.
