Yesterday, on July 19th, I got my lower gum laser treatment done. It's part of my overall dental recovery plan that started last month when I got braces on June 20th for teeth alignment.
I've been thinking about getting all this dental work done for a really long time, but I never found the right time or could align my schedule with the doctor's appointments. Now that I'm settled in Bangalore for a while, I figured this is the perfect opportunity to finally take care of my teeth.
The Investment and Timeline
I'm spending quite a bit on this journey - 35k for the braces, 4k for the laser treatment, and another 20-30k for a teeth implant that I'll need later. That's almost 60k over the span of 10 months, which is how long my doctor says the braces will need to stay on.
The good news is I found an excellent clinic and doctor nearby in Chandapura. The quality of care has been really impressive, and having them close by makes the frequent visits much easier.
Why Now?
The timing felt right for several reasons. I'm currently based in Bangalore, but I'm not sure if I'll still be here in the next 2 years. Since dental treatment like this requires consistent follow-ups and a committed timeline, I knew I had to start now while I'm settled in one place.
It's one of those things you keep putting off until the stars align - and finally, they did.
The Recovery Reality
I won't lie - the recovery has been challenging. Right now, eating food is difficult, brushing my teeth requires extra care, and I can't make sudden head movements. The doctor told me it would take at least 3 weeks to heal completely, though I'm hoping to see improvement in about 2 weeks.
For the next couple of weeks, I can't brush the treated area and I have to stick to only soft foods - no chewing or biting anything hard. It's quite an adjustment to your daily routine.
The Patience Factor
If there's one thing I've learned so far, it's that you need to have a lot of patience to go through this procedure. Between the initial discomfort, the dietary restrictions, and the healing time, it tests your commitment to the process.
But I keep reminding myself that this temporary inconvenience will lead to long-term benefits. Sometimes you have to go through a little discomfort now to feel confident about your smile for years to come.
The journey isn't easy, but I'm glad I finally decided to take this step. Here's to hoping the next few weeks pass quickly and smoothly!
