Even on weekends.
I used to be a weekend warrior when it came to sleep. Monday through Friday? 7:45 AM sharp. Saturday and Sunday? Let me sleep until 10 AM because "I deserve it."
I thought I was treating myself. Turns out, I was sabotaging myself.
The Simple Change
2 weeks ago, I made one small decision: wake up at 7:45 AM every single day. No exceptions. No "just this once" excuses. No sleeping in on weekends.
It takes maybe 5 minutes to set this intention and stick to it, but the ripple effects have been massive.
What Actually Happened
Before this change, I lived in a constant state of low-level anxiety. Weekdays felt rushed and stressful. Weekends felt lazy but somehow unsatisfying. I'd drag myself through most days feeling sluggish and overwhelmed.
Now? My days flow. There's a calmness I never expected.
My Simple Routine
- 7:45 AM: Wake up (every day)
- 8:20 AM: Head to the gym
- 9:50 AM: Back home, get ready for work
- 8:50 PM: Home from office
- 9:50 PM: Dinner (sometimes an apple shake before)
- 10:30 PM: Sleep
That's it. Nothing fancy. Nothing Instagram-worthy. Just consistency.
Why This Works
Your body craves predictability. When you wake up at different times, you're constantly throwing off your internal clock. It's like having jet lag twice a week.
But when you're consistent, something magical happens:
- No more decision fatigue about when to wake up
- Your energy levels stabilize
- You stop feeling like you're always catching up
- The structure actually gives you more freedom, not less
The Weekend Test
The real test came on my first Saturday with this new routine. I woke up at 7:45 AM and felt... guilty? Like I was missing out on something.
But by 10 AM, when I would normally be just waking up, I had already worked out, had breakfast, and was ready to actually enjoy my weekend. I had gained hours, not lost them.
The Bottom Line
It sounds boring. It sounds restrictive. It's neither.
This one small habit waking up at the same time every day has given me more energy, less anxiety, and a sense of control I never had before.
My days used to happen to me. Now I happen to my days.
And it all started with refusing to hit snooze, even on Saturdays.
