Here is a list of top three skills that can be learned in less than 5 minutes in order of their importance:
1. Clean up your work desk:
It tricks your mind into being organized and energetic. A cluttered
desk increases cognitive stress, which contributes to sub-par
performance. This is the best professional advice that I heard from the
CEO of a multibillion dollar company.
2. Clean up your desktop: If
you have many CSV files, Excel documents, PowerPoint presentations all
over your desktop, delete them (if you don’t need them anymore) or make a
new folder (if you still use them) to store the information. A clean PC
desktop reinforces the organization and energy gained from a clean
desk. To add to a clean desktop, you can also reply to your e-mail by
assigning an e-mail only time (I usually dedicate half an hour to this
task) and have minimal unanswered inbox messages. You want to make your
professional environment look as much ordered and in your control as you
can.
3. Before heading to work drink a glass of cold water: You
get the same benefits as drinking a cup of coffee without the anxiety
or the jittery feeling that coffee can have on some users. You will feel
energetic and a glass of cold water also helps your body increase its
metabolism (by boosting your body’s ability to burn fat—due to the
energy required to warm the cold water to the body’s temperature).
