What shouldn't you do in London?

  • Don’t drive in London. Even though there is a congestion charge, you will get stuck in traffic. It’s a mess of buses, taxis and vans.
  • Be careful with your phone. I have never been pick-pocketed (because I’m careful with my phone) but I know people who have. It’s more likely to be a “grab ’n’ run” situation than sneaky pick-pocketing.
  • Don’t make terrorist jokes on the tubes or around train stations. You’d think this would be obvious, right? Unfortunately not as there have been people shouting out “Allahu Akbar” for a laugh. If you ever see armed police in London, you know something’s up, as police are never armed.
  • Don’t stop walking. This is a personal pet peeve of mine, and if you do this I will personally hunt you down (kidding). A lot of streets in the centre of London, especially in the shopping areas are full of people walking somewhere. Don’t be that guy that just stops to look at his phone. You’ll piss off many people very quickly.
  • Don’t talk to people on the tube. They are all tired, grumpy commuters. You try to say ‘hello’ and you will be ignored. Brutally.
  • Most importantly: Don’t stand on the left side on escalators. Right side is for people standing, left side is for people walking. Last time somebody stood on the left side, they were never seen again.
